While trapped alongside everyone else in the throes of lockdown, I somehow stumbled into the world of infrared photography, and in particular, Kodak Aerochrome

Immediately fascinated by the distinctive and dreamlike quality of the film I decided I had to find a way to accurately produce to this effect - however, the limitations of getting my hands on Aerochrome stock (or a suitable camera to shoot it on), meant I had to turn to digital editing techniques to achieve this unique look.

All photos were processed straight from their RAW format to allow me the largest threshold of light data in which to work with. While editing I made sure to avoid overuse of saturation and colourisation controls, instead electing to focus on modifying channel outputs to match how the infrared spectrum would be picked up from the natural light of the scene.

Filmgrain, noise, and subtle use of the Orton effect were also utilised at the end of the process to give the images the correct textural feel and produce a certain amount of light exposure overspill consistent with analogue photography techniques.
